For this build, we will use the official Raspberry Pi OS, more specifically the Lite version (ideal for usage on a headless server). This choice was motivated by the fact that all the components present on the Waveshare HAT were supported by this distribution, out of the box.

To flash the image on your SSD, make use of the Raspberry Pi Imager.
